Karlův most (Charles Bridge)
Karlův most (Charles Bridge)
Charles Bridge has been connecting the Old Town and Little Quarter since 14. century. The bridge has seen a lot of action including major floods like the one in the picture from 1890, display of heads of protestant leaders executed in 1621, and Swedish and Austrian canon fire.
The last major flood was in 2002, but this time the bridge was well protected and suffered no damage.
The bridge was so severely damaged by flood in 1890 that its demolition and replacement by a new, modern bridge was seriously proposed, but fortunately rejected.
