Loreta (Sanctuary of Our Lady of Loreto) dates back to 1626 when Benigna Kateřina of Lobkowitz commissioned a replica of the Santa Casa, or Virgin’s House, of the Italian town of Loreto. The Baroque complex encasing the Virgin’s House was built by father Christoph and son Kilian Ignatz Dientzehofer and finished in 1722. The elegant tower houses an elaborate carillon of 1694, which plays various melodies. Each year crowds of Catholic pilgrims come to pray at this holy shrine.
