Prague New Town was founded in 1347 and its development accomplished in mere 20 years, by 1367. It represents an outstanding example of medieval urban planning - three generous squares (Charles, Wenceslas, and Hay) form its main axis that has been completed by a network of streets. Even the heights and volumes of important sacral and administrative buildings were specified prior to construction.

Today, numerous historical monuments remind us of this legacy. The photos are: New Town Town Hall, St. Ignatius, and Faust House, all at Charles Square (Karlovo náměstí).

New Town (see arrow) was built at the southern and eastern perimeter of the Old Town (yellow). The actual area of the New Town was three times larger than that of the Old Town. This would be quite difficult to guess from this map from 1745 because its scale varies from one area to another.
