St. Vitus (Sv. Vít) - a Gothic cathedral, the spiritual symbol of the Czech state, founded in 1344 by Jan Lucembursky (John of Luxembourg) and his sons Karel (Charles) and Jan Jindrich (John Henry). The construction was finally completed in 1929, almost 600 years later.

Artists have been commissioned by wealthy and influential since Middle Ages to decorate churches and representative interiors with statues, furniture, ornaments ...

...  but woodcarving has always been very important in all other aspects of life, last but not least in making marionettes for the entertainment.
